In college Cherry was called Grandma because whenever her friends would come to her place they always knew they could get a home cooked meal and a great dessert.
It started in 1991 with her famous strawberry cheesecake and a meal had to go with it. She started selling her cheesecakes in The Florida State Senate where she worked as a Legislative Aide. Before the week ended, Cherry was getting calls from the Capital and the House. Every night at home she had to bake. Cherry would bake all night in order to have her orders fresh for the next day. One day, Cherry thought to herself that she needed a name for her business, so she called it Cherry’s Cheesecakes.
Cherry moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1992 and started baking again. Her client list grew quickly, consisting mostly of NFL players. It was at this time Cherry decided that she needed a new name for her business. Since she was doing more than cheesecakes, she changed the name to Cherry’s Cheesecakes & Delights, “ Delectable treats of the South”. She cooked full course meals and a variety of desserts.
Cherry’s Cheesecakes & Delights have been served in the famous Shark Bar Restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia and Country Clubs in Jacksonville, Florida. She has served clients ranging from the NFL's Atlanta Falcons to Super Bowl XXXlX at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida as well as the City of Jacksonville, The Super Bowl Host Committee of Jacksonville, The Super Bowl XXXlX Coors VIP’s, Dillard’s department stores, Macy’s department store of Holyoke, Massachusetts, The Tom Joyner Show, Parks & Crump Law Firm of Tallahassee, FL, the Florida Black Caucus and a former Governor of Alabama.
